While her Samurai husband is off at war, a woman is sexually assaulted by some guy who isn't entirely successful but unfortunately the town drum teacher overhears the scuffle and makes an assumption that the woman is cheating on her Samurai husband. When he confronts her, she insists he drinks sake with her and because he is alone in a room with a married woman and he drinks from the same cup as her, he is just as guilty of adultery as she is (or he thinks she is because really it?s not her fault some guy started groping her). He agrees he is guilty and because they are now drunk they make-a the love. Then, a knock at the door. Oh no, it?s my Samurai husband! Oh, wait, it?s not my Samurai husband…it?s that stupid perv who molested me…what does HE want?? Well, he knows that she?s been sleepin? with the drum teacher and he?s insulted because she don?t want none of him, she?d rather be doin? it with some old drum-circle dude. So, he tries for her again and because it?s so dark he doesn?t know what is going on and he ends up on top of the maid…who we?re supposed to assume is ugly.
End of Act.

Okay, now pay attention:
Act Two starts with Samurai husband coming home and the wife gets all these gifts of hemp-thread which means that everybody in town knows she slept with the drum teacher. Her sister knows too so she decides to write a letter to Samurai husband professing her love for him and she tries to stuff it in his sleeve (Her plan is that this will shift any blame and punishment onto herself and she will save her sister?s life). Well, the adulterous-sister overhears this whole fake confession thing and goes friggin berserk! Samurai guy leaves in a huff and gives a chance for adulterous-sister to murder sacrificial-sister. Fortunately, adulterous-sister?s son is there to be the voice-of-reason. So, sacrificial-sister explains her cockamamie plan and adulterous-sister is touched. But sacrificial-sister also makes it clear that everyone KNOWS adulterous-sister cheated on Samurai husband and adulterous-sister denies is half-heartedly and sacrificial-sister says oh give me a break you?re four months pregnant! Adulterous sister goes ahead and offs herself in remorse.

And then Act Three.....Everybody decides there needs to be a fall guy for all of this and that the Drum Teacher is the most likely target. Everybody, Everybody: stay out of the way, this is an Official Vengeance.
